Large 8vo; ix, 121 pp.; tissue-protected fold-out frontispiece photogravure of the University of Virginia at Charlottesville and Monticello as viewed from Lewis Mountain in 1856; 21 plates within the section by Lambeth on architecture are protected with tissue guards captioned with descriptive letterpress, all guards in perfect condition; 23 numbered plates at the end of the landscape design section by Manning have descriptive letterpress on versos facing the plates. Former owner's bookplate is neatly pasted to inside cover. Pages are ivoried, clean and unmarked with no tears or signs of damp. This handsome book is a detailed illustrated study of Thomas Jefferson as the architect and landscape designer of two architectural masterpieces: Monticello and the University of Virginia.
