Within Upper Cretaceous and Lower Tertiary, rocks of this basin are major deposits of both high quality coal as well as continental and lacustrine fossils. The present study focuses on mitigation procedures which will allow the recovery of both coal and fossils. It recommends that a major salvage effort precede coal mining operations, and recommends recovery of fossils uncovered in mining operations. Contents: (vol. 1) Abstract; Introduction; Methods; Geology; Paleontology; Mining; Salvage; Recommendations for Mitigation; Proposed Methods for Collecting; Paleontology Monitor Specialist; Conclusion; References; Plates 1-13; (vol. 2) Annotated Bibliography.
