'It was a very slight sound, so slight that the girl who was half asleep could not identify it for a second or two. She listened, struggling with the desire to keep her eyes closed and pretend that she did not hear. It came again. No doubt about it this time. Someone was trying to open the kitchen window. She switched on the light beside her bed. Cooly, she took a cigarette from a sliver box, and as she lit a match she wondered what she should do. She was not nervous. All the same, if there was a burglar in the house, as seemed likely, the most sensible course would be to call the servants.' 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Quantity Available: 1.
