Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Gorgeous chromo lithographs by Charles Gregor, Frederick Hines, Ernest Wilson. First Edition Thus. Octavo. Book is firmly bound and tight; the thick cream paper of the text block was often used when this extraordinary printing process was used. Chrom lithography endowed the printed illustrations with a lustre that other processes could not match. For this reason they are frequently victim of the book breaker, who frames them up individually. This is a nice example of the complete book. It has a neat former owner name and date - 1887 - on the dedication page, which is a reproduction of the letter Oliver Goldsmith sent to Sir Joshua Reynolds. There is also a blind stamp on the same page. The reasons for buying this book are the wonderful illustrations, which are printed throughout the book. The edges of the boards are abraded here and there, but the corners are good and square, and the usual fading encountered with this edition is not as pronounced. A fine collectible edition of an often much abused book. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng.
