AUTHOR: Bill Perrins was born and brought up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, during the height of the Troubles. He joined the Royal Air Force during the mid-1970s and became a pilot on Vulcan bombers, which he flew during the Falklands War of 1982. Subsequently he became a qualified flying instructor prior to moving on to Tornado F3 fighters.
