He remained a Federalist and a Whig, considered the Constitution as an inspired document and love of the Union was part of his religion (taken from Preface written by James Petigru Carson. Frontispiece of James Louis Petigru, ten additional illustrations of friends and family. Text is without marginalia. Indexed, 497 pp. Full refund if not satisfied.

A tipped in folded promotional broad sheet advertisement for the book is location between the front paste down and right front flyleaf where the hinge is cracked. A news clipping titled "Text of an Epitaph" is tipped in between the copyright and dedication pages. Pages 144 and 115 browned upper edges probably from a removed paper clipping. Hand written genealogy in light pencil on xxiv (blank).
