Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine condition. NOT a library discard (illustrator). Reprint of the 1898 Second Edition. Scholar Select Appears unread. Near Fine condition (cover only a little rubbed). NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked - apparently never read. Illustrated with about 25 plates, printed on rectos only (blank versos). NOT a library discard, but an undated reproduction based on a library copy of the 1898 Second Edition. Full title: "Contrasts: or, A Parallel Between the Noble Edifices of the Middle Ages, and Corresponding Buildings of the Present Day; Shewing the Present Decay of Taste, Accompanied by appropriate Text." Has chapters on Great Edifices of the Middle Ages; On the Revived Pagan Principle; Pillage and Destruction of the Churches under Henry the Eighth; Ravages and Destruction of the Churches under Edward the Sixth; etc. According to Pugin's biographer, Rosemary Hill: "The drawings were all calculatedly unfair. King's College London was shown from an unflatteringly skewed angle, while Christ Church, Oxford, was edited to avoid showing its famous Tom Tower because that was by Christopher Wren and so not medieval. But the cumulative rhetorical force was tremendous." -- Wikipedia. Reprint of the 1898 Second Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine condition/No dust jacket, as issued. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 8vo. (xii), 100pp. + 25 plates. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.
