Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good minus. First Edition, Second Printing. There was a limited issuance of this first edition which was signed and numbered. This the is the first 'trade' edition, but is also signed and dated on slip tipped in at the copyright page. Octavo, 9" tall, xiv + 311 pages + black and white plate pages, gilt top fore-edge and gilt titles on brown cloth. A very good, generally clean and neat hard cover over all with minor shelf wear; binding tight, but paper lightly yellowed. In a very good minus, moderately worn dust jacket, BUT with cloth tape applied to the blank reverse at the top and bottom edges.

Limited Edition. 219 pages listing 200 manuscripts and items. a 33 page introduction by Dr Rosenbach and with 16 page index of authors and works at rear + colophon leaf with limitation number of 1000 copies and the printers imprint of "The Haddon Craftsmen" of New Jersey and that the monotone plates were by by Edward Stern & Co of Philadelphia. This copy was presented to; "William Roberts from his friend A. S. W. Rosenbach Jan 31st 1938". also loosely inserted is a Rosenbach Company part printed note stating to whom this was sent and the date and stating "package 898" so perhaps this is copy No 898? Bound in red mottled heavy cloth with many illustrations of manuscript and illuminated items in this fine collection. Quarto size. Cloth a little faded to top and spine, but not severe (see images) Contents all clean firm and not marked. Very Good+. * William Roberts was the literary editor for about 30 years, until about 1933, for the Times Newspaper in London. He also bought for Rosenbach and used to put him up when he came over here.
