Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Good+. First Edition. Original leather binding in Good+ condition. Scuffing consistent with a 175 year-old book, but pretty remarkable condition. Gilt border decorationon front and back. Gilt title on red spine block very legible. Contents complete and all intact - nothing separating although front hinge starting to separate. Book has suffered humidity damage over the years with some waveness to the pages. Moderate foxing and yellow staining on some pages, but all legible. Some minor pencil notations by previous owners. Is ex-lib, but does not detract from overall appearance - an embossed library stamp on a few pages, a very old libray checkout envelope on the rear pastedown and a black band on spine (see photo). A bookplate may have been removed from front pastedown under which was old style ink writing. Overall, a very nice original collectible copy of this early history of Berks and Lebanon counties, including early settlers and good detail on original Indian inhabitants and those who emigrated. Howes #R512.
