Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Without a doubt, the late Edward Schillebeeckx (1914-2009) remains one ofthe most important and inspiring theological voices of the twentiethcentury. Apart from his influential books still widely read, the name ofSchillebeeckx is constantly linked to the renewal of church life andtheology that occurred during the Second Vatican Council. The presentcritically annotated edition by Dr. Karim Schelkens - containing both theoriginal Dutch text and an English translation - now makes Schillebeeckx'private notes, jotted down during the first two council periods, readilyavailable for a wider public, thereby offering its readers a uniquepossibility to enter into the thought world and the activities of thistheological giant. The edition is prepared with the support of the EdwardSchillebeeckx Foundation, and holds a preface by Prof. Mathijs Lamberigtsas well as an introduction by Schillebeeckx' biographer, Prof. ErikBorgman. Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. The present volume is the result of an international scholars conference held in 2005, studying the influence of the Belgian bishops and theologians at the Second Vatican Council. The book is subdivided in three main parts. A first part offers more general studies (both from a historical and a sociological point of view) into the way large assemblies function, and the way in which smaller groups are able to exercize influence on their outcome. The second part contains a number of studies devoted to the specific role and influence of the Belgian cardinal Leo Joseph Suenens at Vatican II, with particular emphasis on his contacts with other conciliar protagonists. Thirdly, the role of various theologians (Philips, Thils, Moeller, .) and bishops (De Smedt, Calewaert, but also Belgian missionary bishops) is studied by an international team of specialists on the history of the Council. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.
