[Crime Mystery] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.viii; 427 [12]. Publisher's catalogue dated May 1892. With 12 half-tone illustrated plates by Hole and Metcalf, including a frontispiece. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt titles to spine. Fore-edge untrimmed. Repair to split lower hinge. Spotting and toning to edges and endpapers. Slightly cocked. Quite roughly opened in places. Moderate wear to cloth; spine quite heavily toned. Very good. Another stirring tale of shipwreck, salvage and dark doings from Mr.Stevenson; the second mystery written in collaboration with his stepson Lloyd Osborne, in this instance the investigator being the narrator himself. Inspired by the schooner Equator (1888-1953), this strange South Seas tale concerns the abandoned wreck of the Flying Scud at Midway Island.
