Hardcover. Zustand: Poor. No Jacket. R. Caton Woodville (illustrator). Green cloth with heavy wear to the top and bottom spine. On the front panel there is a tree design with the words "Doran Company" The title and author's name is faded on the spine and is barely legible. The spine cloth is rippled. There is a 3/4" segment of the top of the spine that has come away from the back strip. The front hinge is loose and the green cloth spine is beginning to peel away from the back strip. The end papers are heavily toned. There is foxing on the front pages (title, half title and some of the first text pages) . There are two chinks missing from the front free end paper. There is writing in pencil on the FFEP. The fore edge is uneven and foxed. The rear end paper is stuck to the paste down. There appears to be some numbers in colored pencil behind that stuck end paper. The illustrations are remarkable. One in particular shows a rhinoceros charging a man who is airborne as a result of the assault. There are many illustrations of the author with magnificent animals that he killed for pleasure. (Sad!) The rear end paper has a few chinks missing from the sides. The title page is chipped along the fore edge side. There is no date, but my guess is that this is from the 1920s.
