Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Octavo. 256 pp. Red cloth. The jacket is complete and unclipped with only the merest touches of edge wear. A few isolated spots of foxing to inner flaps. Touches of foxing and dustiness to the edges of the text block. No inscriptions or blemishes to the pages. A bright and clean copy of an increasingly scarce title in dust jacket. Illustrated with line b/w drawings by Milein Cosman [1921-2017], a German-born Jewish refugee from her homeland came to England when she was twenty-five and made a successful career here as an artist and illustrator. She had an aptitude for capturing movement and was a good choice for a children's novel on the subject of skating. Noel Streatfeild [1895-1986] was a popular author for children having originally worked as an actress her stories are often set in the worlds of the theatre or ballet.

Erstausgabe Signiert
London; Collins. 1951. 8vo. Original red cloth gilt, in pictorial dustwrapper with wrap-around design; pp. [iv], 5-256; with line drawings by Milein Cosman; a very good copy indeed with a little dulling to spine gilt; internally fine and fresh throughout with the unavoidable vertical strip of offset-browning to first and final leaf; the scarce unclipped dustwrapper (8s 6d) in uncommonly bright and clean condition with a little rubbing to folds, a sliver of horizontal loss across head of spine (not encroaching on the title), and neat brown paper-strengthening to the reverse at spine extremities and corners; scarce, especially signed. First edition of this classic career novel for children, following in the wake of the huge success of Streatfeild's Ballet Shoes. This book tells the story of a child skater who trains to become a champion. Signed by Noel Streatfeild, in ink, to the front free endpaper, and dated 1952.
