First edition. A collection of occult detective stories. "Fourteen episodes of mystery and crime, in which one of the central characters, running through the series, has supernatural powers (which include the ability to give his 'thought-body' visible substance)." - Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 212. "Fourteen connected stories of the weird and supernatural, narrated in the first person, written in a sentimental and unsophisticated manner reminiscent of a generation earlier, with story titles such as 'The Speaker and the Spectre,' 'A Singular Case of Somnambulism,' 'The Ghost in the Violin' and 'Interviewing the Mummies.' A prize for the connoisseur more than the general reader, though not quite as desirable as this publisher's other 1903 title, DACOBRA." - Robert Eldridge. Bleiler (1978), p. 193. Not in Reginald (1979; 1992). Hubin (1994), p. 798. Cloth rubbed at spine ends, corner tips, and along outer rear hinge, severa light scuffs and some soiling to rear panel, top edge of pages dusty, a very good copy. An attractive copy of an uncommon book. (#171619).
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Wonderfully obscure collection of occult detective stories, straddling the line between mystery and supernatural literature. Listed in George Locke's Spectrum of Fantasy as well as Hubin's Bibliography of Crime Fiction. Very good copy in publisher's red boards worn at corner tips, spine ends, and at rear joint near heel. Front cover has some dulling to the white, green, and black lettering and illustration. The spine is toned and with a couple spots of soiling. Text block shows scattered foxing and a few spots. Internally clean and tight with tanning to end papers, and an embossed stamp to ffep. A scarce book.
