Tuckett (1834-1913), ein aus Bristol stammender Geschäftsmann, war neben John Ball einer der vordersten Erschließer der Alpen der 2. Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts, dem "golden age" des Alpinismus. Er ist Erstbesteiger (1859) des Aletschhorn (4195 m) und erreichte gemeinsam mit Leslie Stephen (1861) über den Dome du Gouter den Gipfel des Montblanc (4807 m). Seine Erforschungen in der Gebirgsgruppe der Dauphiné (1862) machten diese wilde und einsame Bergregion einer breiteren alpinen Fachwelt bekannt. Auch in den Ostalpen gelangen ihm mit Erstbegehung des Spallagrates (Piz Bernina, 1866), der Besteigung der Königsspitze und des Ortlers (1864) und der Cima di Brenta (1871) großartige Erfolge, die Tuckett-Hütte in der Brentagruppe wurde nach ihm benannt. Die vorliegende Ausgabe, basierend auf Aufsätzen Tucketts, die in "Peaks, passes and glaciers" und im "Alpine Journal" veröffentlicht wurden, enthält u.a.: 1.
