Exceptionally rare two volume complete set in original red leather binding with all plates present and in exceptional nrFine state with original tissue guards. Tooled leather binding with 5 raised bands on each and gilt lettering and designs; heavy stock paper with gilt on all fore-edges; marbled page edges. Interiors are fresh and clean with no signs of foxing or staining; minimal light soiling at most. The exterior boards themselves have heavy wear with leather edges frayed and flaking; corner exposed; volume two has large staining marks to the covers with cloth removed from edges; both exteriors soiled; interior hinges weak; volume one has loose end pages. Overall bindings and spines present well on a book shelf; leather is generally scuffed but still fresh. No date given, c1880. First American edition. Joseph Mallord William Turner RA (1775 ? 1851) was an English Romantic landscape painter, water-colourist, and printmaker. Turner is regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting.
