Woodcut vignette of the Medici coat of arms on the title page and two other woodcut vignette title letters for parts 1 + 2 and also with a vignette title letter on full page dedicatory to "Don Francesco De Medici" dated Pescia (Province of Tuscany) 12th September 1544. Some browning to some pages and some handling in places, small piece missing at outer margin in table at beginning page 3, no textual loss. Tables at both the beginning and at the end, genuinely good or better copy all printed on hand made paper and with good margins, complete also with Colophon and original rear blank endpaper. Original cream vellum badly worn and wrinkled and content and block firm but separated from out covers. However! This fault reveals an original strip of MSS text in Latin possibly 15th century or earlier from two possibly 3 illuminated calligraphic manuscripts, these portions of which are in two colour inks are a very neat calligraphic sliver of history from a work or works dating to the time of the books production but from an earlier period by a monk or scribe? Would with archival aid remove before re-using the original vellum binding for repair or a rebind. Good margins. Very rare original edition by Lorenzo Torrentino of the last two books (11th and 12th or part 2) of the famous chronicle of Giovanni Villani. *It is one of the most important texts in the history of Tuscany with references to the economy and finance considered for the breadth of political horizons the greatest Italian chronicle of the 1300?s. The Cronica of which this is the 2nd part details the Florence the author knew and documents of the 1320?s, with his personal remembrances from his privileged and high social position, a revealing insight into the attitudes, beliefs and culture in Florence in the 1300?s *The publisher ?Torrentino" never printed the first part of Giovanni's Chronicle nor even the second part of Matteo's continuation printed in 1581 or even HIS son?s extra work taking the history to 1364. This edition is very rare that it is not mentioned by Muratori or by Apostolo Zeno; Coleti. STC. And other sources and even ADAMS and the BM are missing this book. S. il S. Ascanio Dalla Corgna (di ) Lodovico Domenichi\", datata:\"A XXVIII di Novembre. MDLIIII. di Pescia\". Le rimanenti parti furono stampate a Venezia nel 1537 (B. Zanetti) e nel 1562. Opera davvero rara a trovaqrsi completa, magistralmente impressa dal Torrentino in minuto carattere tondo. La Cronica di G. Villani (1276-1348) narra, in 12 libri, la storia di Firenze dalle origini fantastiche e immaginose fino al 1346; alla sua morte, il fratello Matteo (1295-1363) vi aggiunse altri 11 libri, giungendo sino al 1363, e commissionando poi al figlio Filippo di portare a compimento il racconto della guerra di Pisa. L`opera di Giovanni Villani, soprattutto, è considerata, per la vastità del disegno e l`ampiezza degli orizzonti politici, di gran lunga, la maggiore cronaca italiana del Trecento. In molti repertori bibliografici le due parti vengono descritte separatamente quindi è assai difficile trovare esemplari, di questa edizione del Torrentino, che contengono le due parti insieme. Esemplare dall`attraente legatura e in discrete condizioni interne, lievi aloni alla parte inferiroe delle prime 20 carte; per il resto buon esemplare.
