Contains a statement submitted to President Wilson by members of the American Jewish Congress regarding the status of the Jews of Eastern Europe. The memorial argued that the enlargement of existing States and creation of new States should coincide with conditions allowing the Jews in these States to enjoy equal rights with other residents. The memorials requested that the Peace Conference emancipate the Jews in Eastern Europe without discrimination based on nationality, race, creed or gender. Subjects: OCLC lists 13 copies. In two autograph letters, signed April 22 and December 26, 1872 as a U. S. Senator, to J. R. Osgood & Co., the first instructing the company to send six "marked" copies to a like number of friends (including "Mr. Stanton" and "Mr. Louis Tappan"), the second asking the company to provide written authority "for Mr. J. M. Grassie [clerk of the Senate Military Affairs Committee in the 40th Congress, 1867-1869] of this city to solicit subscriptions for the â Rise & Fall &c." Both folded for mailing, but very good.

This is a near fine 7 volume set in navy blue cloth with gold stamping on the covers and spines, t.e.g. This is an unmarked set with the book plate of Brigadier-General Sir Joseph Frederick Laycock KCMG DSO TD, who had Ramage & Ferguson of Leith build for him a steel auxiliary 3-masted steam yacht, the Valhalla, to a design by Mr. W. C. Storey. She was launched from the Victoria Shipyard on 20 October 1892. Her complement was 100 hands, and she was the only steam yacht in the world to have a full ship rig.
