Sheikh R…ashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum decreed the creation of the Dubai Islamic Bank on 12 March 1975 as the first Islamic bank in the world to incorporate Islamic principles in all its practices. It was founded in September 1975 by Saeed Bin Ahmed Lootah (1923-2020), a former seafarer and trader, founder of the SS Lootah Group, author, economist, and community leader. Its advisor was Dr Issa Abdo, Professor of Islamic Economics and Member of the Economic Research Centre, Faculty of Economics and Administration at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. Its capital was divided into 100,000 shares, 10% of which went to its founders (Lootah and his family including Nasser Rashid, Sultan Ahmed, Mohammed Nasser, Abdullah Saeed), and 90% for UAE citizens with contributions by non-citizens at the Ruler's discretion. This document contains the Emiri Decree, the Bank's Articles of Association and its Bylaws interspersed with relevant Surah from the Qu'ran.
