The Clyde Shipping Company (1815-1956) developed from a small Clyde‑based tug and lighterage operator into one of Britain's longest‑running coastal steamship firms, with a trajectory shaped by industrial expansion, Irish Sea trade, and two world wars. Its evolution can be traced across three major phases: early steam navigation (1815-1956), Kidston‑era expansion (1856-1893), and the Cuthbert‑led modern period (1893-1956).
