"When Light Line Fly Fishing…for Salmon, and, Thread Line Fishing for Trout and Sea Trout were written, these methods were in process of development. Various improvements are recorded here, especially a new way of casting which counters weakening of the line, thus making the use of a collar unnecessary and leading to simplification and greater accuracy in casting. The author regards this improvement as being one of the most important since he worked out the modern way of spinning with thin lines, light rods and small hooks in the 'twenties."
