De familia aristocrática desempeñaría varios cargos administrativos. Escribió en su lengua materna, el griego, su obra Historia Romana que abarcaba desde la fundación de Roma hasta la muerte de Trajano. Basándose en los textos de Polibio, Salustio, Clodio, Livio, Plutarco, Julio César. su obra constaba de 24 libros de los que solo se conservan 10 completos ( del 6 al 8 y del 9 al 17) y algunos fragmentos de otros. Esta edición de 1670 presenta los textos bilingües, en latín y griego, corregidos por Alejandro Tollius y Henrici Stephani, a doble columna. Antigua edición de bolsillo, impreso en letra itálica de cuerpo muy pequeño. Apiano (Alejandría, Egipto, c. 95-c. 165) fue un historiador romano de origen griego, autor de la Historia Romana, relato escrito en griego de la historia de la ciudad desde su fundación hasta la muerte de Trajano. Romanarum Historiarum, es una obra compuesta por 24 libros, de los cuales solo se conservan diez completos (del VI al VIII y del XI al XVII) y secciones parciales de otros; algunos se han perdido completamente. 8 hojas, 1.011 páginas, 78 hojas, inclusive la última que lleva la marca del impresor grabada en madera. Ilustrado con letras capitales xilográficas, y marca de impresor en la portada y última hoja. Encuadernación en pergamino de la época, lomera rotulada. Pérdida de papel y pequeñas galerías de polilla en la parte inferior que no afecta al texto de la página 885 a la 934, restauradas. Por lo general en buen estado y bello ejemplar. 12x7,5 cm.

Legatura in piena pergamena con nervi coeva, titolo manoscritto a pennino al dorso, volume in 16°, pag (16), 1011, (155), (4) bella marca tipografica del Gryphium al termine dell'opera con 4 carte bianche aggiunte successivamente presentanti una nota; frontespizzio rifilato poco spora la dicitura APPIANI, tre pagine iniziali interessate da piccoli fori di tarlo estinto che non interessano il testo,brunitura diffusa , rare pieghette di lettura, complessivamente buone condizioni generali. Graesse dà la priorità a questa traduzione (altre 3 edizioni lionesi della seconda metà del XVI secolo in una nota a piè di pagina) - La tipografia fu fondata da Sebastian Gryphius (Greyff; nato nel 1493) di Reutlingen, che fu Stampato a Lione dal 1520 fino alla sua morte nel 1556, indipendente dal 1528. "Le sue edizioni di autori classici erano in concorrenza con quelle di Aldus e Estienne" (SH Steinberg, Die Schwarze Kunst, 1961, p. 93; cfr. anche H. Solo i libri 6-8 e 11-17 sono sopravvissuti nella loro interezza: guerre in Spagna, contro Annibale, in Africa, in Siria, contro Mitridate e guerre civili (Rüdiger/Koppen, 1, 1969). "La questione delle fonti è stata trattata molto, poiché Appian è la fonte principale per epoche importanti (ad esempio il tempo della rivoluzione), ed è molto difficile. [.] Appian ammira le dimensioni e la monarchia di Roma in un'epoca che è ancora certo. Belle page de titre bois gravé allégorique et grandes lettrines bois gravés. Des annotations érudites du temps à l'encre rouge dans les marges, semblant être des corrections de traductions. Vraissemblablement première traduction latine. Le vélin qui compose la reliure est un peu abimé par endroits, deux manques angulaires. Les deux premières pages de garde blanches sont un peu salies, rares salissures et petite mouillure marginale sans gravité. Les pages sont à grandes marges. Cet ouvrage, rare, est en bon état général.
