Sepia photograph frontispiece of Cella of Temple of Bacchus at Baalbek. The text is illustrated with numerous other sepia toned photographs, line drawings and plans. At the rear of the book there is a three page fold out map showing Italy, Greece and Asia Minor. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured illustration and titles to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. This book was first published in 1902 and has been fully revised and updated by Thomas Ashby. Part of a two volume set dealing with ancient architecture, this volume dealing with Rome, detailing the developments of Roman architecture and its various forms. Softening of the back strip edges with a little rubbing of the book corners and lower book edges. The underlying board is visible to the lower book corners. Light browning of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. Offset tanning to the endpapers and original bookseller's sticker to the lower right hand corner of the front paste-down.
