Leather corners with some peeling, hinge of front cover tender from leather rusting. Contents very good. From the title page: "Illustrated with 15 photogravure steel plates, 12 colored lithographic plates, and numerous other illustrations by Henry N. Cady and others." This volume covers Mexico, ancient Peru, North American Indians (Algonquin, Iroquois, Southwestern, Northwest Coast), and the Eskimos. The colored plates are only copyright Gebbie & Co. without artist attribution except for the Hall portrait. The colored plates are not found in all versions of the "Antiquarian Edition." Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Large thick 2 volume 4to set in dark cloth with leather spines. While volumes look good both front boards are off and some one at one point had taped some covers on them that has left tape on the inside of the boards. Quite interesting volumes with 15 photogravure plates and 18 chromo plates + tons of in text prints. For the time period they really cover the native population of North and South America well. Other than a thin water mark on the edge of the first 3 pages the contents are tight and very clean. Most plates have a tissue guard. Will require some extra postage. All other copies we found were of a later date.
