Little is known about his early life or about his formal training, which there are no records of. Only a few oil paintings by him are known up to this date. A number of 136 etchings can still be confidently attributed to Waterloo, which, alongside various topographical views, are found in collections in Berlin, München, Vienna, Amsterdam, or London. A recurrent subject in his etchings is nature, with a predilection for forest scenes, which he executed in the utmost detail. Anthoine Waterloo was active in the Dutch cities of Amsterdam, Utrecht and Leeuwarden. He was possibly son of the painter Johann (Hans) Rauscher II, who died in 1632 and grandson of Johann (Hans) Rauscher I, who settled in Leipzig in 1589.
