Volume V, No. 6, the March, 1952 issue of Science-Fiction Advertiser; this is the new name and (somewhat) new, longer form of the earlier incarnation, Fantasy Advertiser fanzine. Roy Squires had long since taken over editing from Norma…n "Gus" Wilmorth by this time, and wasn't far from bringing it into its heyday. Though longer and a bit richer, at this time the fanzine was still focused on book reviews and ads, and apart from Morris Scott Dollens carried little in the way of interior art and virtually no fiction.yet. Even the reviews, essays and articles gave precious little credit to the writers, who were often the editor or his assistants. None of that would last.Cover is by Dollens, and there are small pieces by Neil Austin and Jon Arfstrom inside as well. Octavo, stapled wraps, 45 pages. Near Fine copy, with only the inevitable modest toning to the paper (see scans). High grade. Very sharp, undamaged copy. An early example of the uniquely American sci-fi / fantasy fanzine genre. One or two interesting articles per issue - in this case Arthur J. Cox's "Deux Ex Machina - A Study of A.E. Van Vogt" and Carolyn Gaybard's "In Defense of Space Opera" - and some rare illustrations, but still, to this point, largely book reviews, ads and a bit of opinion. The book has a minor lean to the binding, a shallow gap startin…g between the case and the bookblock at the head of the spine, very slight bumps to the spine ends, a hint of smudging to the head of the text block near the binding, a very faint touch of waving to the head and tail edges, and a light diagonal crease to the lower fore corner of the front paste down. Otherwise, this is a solid, tight, bright Very Good+ copy in a Near Fine dust jacket, which has a hint of wear to the spine ends, edges and corners. The jacket is wrapped in a Mylar cover and the book is housed in a Very Good+ slipcase, which has some mild wear to the corners, and areas of light rubbing to the panels. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 46 pp. Very Good plus to about near fine; thin peripheral toning, tiny chip here and there (see scans). This May / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. Though credited artwork is still sparse, there's plenty inside to enjoy; eye-catching art by Neil Austin, Jon Arfstrom, Morris Scott Dollens, Cindy (Smith), Ralph Phillips, Naaman Peterson, Jack Gaughan and Paul Powlesland; articles by William L.
