Garrity, one of the founders of the publishing firm Devon-Adair, explains in his foreword why he had this classic book of travel and other essays (on the theater, philosophy) reprinted by calling it his old friend -and he expresses doubt that Fairbanks was the author. Very good in blue cloth with gold lettering on the spine.

The girl is holding a doll, the ducks have a first prize ribbon. The cover has nothing to do with story within. Pages are browning and somewhat brittle, front endpaper is cracked at hinge. Stain on lower foredge. moisture stain on rear board at the bottom. A story of two orphaned children who cared for each other but were separated and each found how to live full lives and were happily and productively reunited. The girl originally had only one show and when she got a second she went on to educate other poor children. The illustrations by the very talented Fern Bisel Peat give life to what otherwise would be just be a moralistic story. It is a text, which we ascribe to noted American printer William Edwin Rudge (who has signed the book following the last page of text), proposes that the recipient acquire the historic COAL TRADE JOURNAL, then presumably imperiled. Possibly the only book devoted to a tribute to this journal "which is the oldest and wisest of all". 10 pages.
