The American Philatelist is the oldest continuously published philatelic journal in the world, the first issue having appeared in January 1887. The magazine is published monthly for members of the American Philatelic Society. It has the appearance of a standard glossy color magazine, typically running about 100 pages per issue. As the house organ, there are monthly departments covering American Philatelic Society news and activities, a president's column, and other articles specific to the Society itself. The core of the magazine consists of 5-10 articles on subjects related to philately. All of its articles feature color illustrations, graphs and charts. This issue contains the following articles: "StampShow Book Review: Murder and Stamps in Philatelic Fiction" (Lawrence Block's 'Hit and Run') by Charles J. Peterson; "Collecting Coast to Coast: The search for Quivera.or an excuse to create a cover" (Local Post covers) by Wayne Youngblood; "Back of the Book: Taxing Postcards" (Persia and Slovakia postcard revenue stamps) by David Straight; "Back to Basics: First Day Cover Vocabulary" by Ada Prill; Inside the NPK: Summer at the Museum" by Allen Kane; "Worldwide in a Nutshell: Dominica" by Bob Lamb.
