Graziose rosette incise in legno ai frontespizi. Titoli ai frontespizi degli ultimi due volumi entro cornice in doppio filetto nero. Capilettera silografici, qualche testatina e finalino. I primi 5 voll. stampati nel 1683, mentre gli ultimi 2 appartengono all'edizione precedente, che vide luce nel 1675-6. Note di possesso al recto delle carte di guardia superiori, datate 1692, poi cancellate anticamente (nome illeggibile). Bella prima legatura, probabilmente realizzata intorno alla data appena menzionata, in tutta pergamena semi floscia, titoli manoscritti ai dorsi con piccoli fregi calligrafici e tomaisons. Tagli spruzzati di rosso. Etichette cartacee di collocazione bibliotecaria ai dorsi. Interessante serie, rarissima da trovare completa, in perfetta condizione ed in uniforme legatura del tempo. De Rogatis fu un gesuita napoletano, la cui opera contribuì a far conoscere la cultura e la storia spagnola nell'Italia del '600. In principio, il primo volume dell'opera fu pubblicato a Venezia da Benedetto Guasco nel 1650. Tra le tante successive edizioni, la maggior parte postume, ci furono quelle napoletane e bolognesi. Il lavoro di De Rogatis fu dato alle stampe anche con il titolo di "Historia del Regno de' Goti nella Spagna abbattuto e risorto ó vero Del racquisto della Spagna occupata da mori". Andrea Sanelli, altro padre gesuita, fu editore degli ultimi due volumi, come si apprende dalla prefazione del sesto volume. "Nell'Italia del Seicento la Spagna riscuoteva favori. Non tanto nella politica (poiché gli Spagnoli, dal 1503 Signori di Napoli e della Sicilia, avevano riempito le cronache nere del 1647-48 con la sanguinosa repressione della rivolta di Masaniello), quanto nella musica, nella letteratura e nel teatro. Innanzitutto i capolavori di Lope de Vega (1562-1635), con la loro miscela di tragico e comico, con la marcata drammaticità del loro intreccio, con l'onnipresente senso dell'onore e la rappresentazione negativa della nobiltà, erano successi commerciali e modello per innumerevoli autori della Penisola. Ma anche l''Historia della perdita e riacquisto della Spagna occupata da Mori' del gesuita Bartolomeo de Rogatis (1596-1656), apparsa in più volumi a Venezia nel 1650, fu presto esaurita e venne ristampata più volte in rapida serie (1674, 1679 e 1683). Questa storia enciclopedica sul medioevo spagnolo costituiva una vera miniera di eventi, figure e materiali fantastici ed eroici, ed offriva (involontariamente?) le fondamenta per innumerevoli lavori teatrali e libretti d'opera."
