Paperback. Zustand: New. The Titan was an integral double-decker bus built by Leyland Motors, becoming the standard double-decker produced by the company in the 1980s. The type was not as popular as its main competitor, the MCW Metrobus. As with this latter model, London Transport was Leyland's best customer for the Titan. Leyland built one of the prototype Titans to London specification and it was used on trials from Chalk Farm garage in May 1976. The first six entered service with London Transport from Hornchurch garage in December 1978. The first 250 were built at the former AEC facility in Southall. Production then moved north to Leyland's own factory in Workington. The last members of the fleet were delivered to London Transport in 1984, with 1,125 being built new for London. These were joined by five additional Titans from West Midlands PTE in 1984, as well as a former demonstrator, bringing the total to 1,131. At the time of privatisation, Titans passed to six of the new London operators. Over the coming years, the articulated type was used to convert a number of central London services from Routemaster and doubledeck operation. A change of policy saw the demise of the articulated type, the last of which were operating on the 207 in 2012. However, this did not spell the end of the Citaro in London, with a few small batches being purchased by various London operators on a handful of routes in south-east London. Paperback. Zustand: New. Wrightbus of Ballymena built its first double-deck body in 2001, naming it the Eclipse Gemini. Unlike its rivals, it was available on the DAF/VDL and Volvo chassis. Arriva London was a big customer for the type, taking stock of both the Volvo B7TL and DAF DB250 models, being the only customer for the latter model. First and Go-Ahead London took stock of the Volvo B7TL model. The Gemini 2 model was launched in 2009, again only on the VDL and Volvo chassis. Arriva London, First and Go-Ahead London were quick to snap up further examples of this new model, the integral VDL DB300 model (Arriva) and the newly introduced B9TL. The Volvo B5LH hybrid chassis became available with Gemini 2 bodywork in 2008 and was received well by London operators. In 2013, the Gemini 3 body style was launched, and varied slightly from the Gemini 2 in appearance.
