First edition, a very good copy in contemporary vellum, of this academic debut by Adrien Behotte (1578-1638), a substantial volume of classical studies examining questions relating to Ovid, Horace, Martial, Statius, Tibullus, Cicero, Vergil and other ancient authors. Printed in Paris by Claude Morel (1574-1626), the dedication by Behotte, writing from the scholarly Collège de Harcourt in Paris, is addressed to Jacques Auguste de Thou (1553-1617), learned French historian and book collector. The text is principally in Latin, though there is occasional use of Greek types. A contemporary reader has penned occasional ink notes in the margins. Both this first edition and the second, also printed by Morel (Paris, 1612), are scarce. Not in British Library.
