There is tanning and spotting on the front and back covers. The staples have gone rusty, but remain to hold the book tightly together. There jacket is no jacket with this book. The pages are in a very good condition, with spotting on the front and back inside cover, and end papers. Each page inside has rust where the staples are, this doesn't affect the reading quality of the book. There are black and white pictorial illustrations drawn by Nicolas Bentley. 'Each week readers submitted newspaper cuttings to illustrate the English attitude, its foibles and follies. The book is described by Michael Barsley as a 'record', sometimes of tortuous hypocrisy, sometimes unconscious humour guaranteed to baffle foreigners' The overall condition of this book is very good, especially given its age.

One leaf - pages 113/114 - with closely-spaced droplet-size tan spot and two tan specks confined to margins at upper outer corners, persisting with diminishing effect back to page 109 and up to page 120. Neat two-line gift inscription "To Captain & Mrs. Strickland January 1942 / The Morning Tea was Grand" on front flyleaf. Edges of text-block a little toned, top edge also lightly dust-marked. Generally clean and tight. GOOD copy.

Very practical book about how to lose weight written by a doctor who has put down the facts and given details of how to lose fat from the body. Probably will send overweight woke people of the current time and turn them into a crying wreck at the thought that eating less and exercising more is the only way to lose weight. And the pictures by Nicolas Bentley are brilliant, sympathetic and humorous at the same time.

A humorous look at most of the popular sports with excellent cartoon style illustrations by Bentley throughout.
