Gli scioperi spontanei, che hanno interessato con particolare intensità nella seconda metà degli anni '60 tutti i paesi dell'Occidente europeo rimangono la forma specifica con cui l'ondata di conflittualità operaia si esprime nei paesi in cui più spi…nte sono le tecniche d'integrazione sociale, sindacale e politica della classe operaia. Questo volume, opera comune dei redattori della rivista Zenit e degli stessi protagonisti delle lotte, ne descrive due casi esemplari: lo sciopero dei portuali di Göteborg e quello dei minatori di Kiruna-Malmberget. Al di là di certa ingenuità spontaneista delle generalizzazioni in qualche modo complementare alla collocazione delle istituzioni maggioritarie del movimento operaio svedese la singolare utilità del volume sta in un suo atteggiamento decisamente analitico ed empirico, al quale si deve l'evidenza con cui emergono alcune indicazioni. Da un lato trova qui verifica l'unità di fondo della classe operaia europea non solo nelle tematiche rivendicative, ma ancor più nelle forme di costruzione di una democrazia operaia; dall'altro la crescente contrapposizione al paternalismo aziendale e alla mediazione dei sindacati, la difficile riconquista della coscienza della propria unità di classe, la costruzione di nuove, e autonome, forme di organizzazione sono, nel volume, processi concreti, descritti e riconosciuti nella realtà della condizione operaia e nello svolgimento dei fatti. E valgono perciò meno come verifica di una generica inesauribilità dell'antagonismo operaio che come documenti del suo contrastato realizzarsi in una società di capitalismo avanzato. Zenit è una rivista nordeuropea che ha il suo centro principale in Svezia. Teoricamente e ideologicamente si richiama al leninismo ma non si riconosce in alcuna organizzazione politica.
