Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. Here is another book by an artist cum journalist like Ernie Pyle and Bill Mauldin who was on the ground with the troops during World War II. Please find: Artist at War Tunisia-Sicily-Italy by George Biddle. I quote from the flap of the dust jacket: Here is what war is really like; the way it looks and feels and smells. George Biddle is tired of the prettified releases-the hero stories and cute anecdotes. He thinks the folks back home have a right to know what the boys are really doing. Seeing and feeling I with the keenness of an artist he conveys in vivid words what he experiences during his eight months with our troops in Africa and Italy. This small hard cover book (6 x 8 ¾ inches 241 pages) was published by the Viking Press of New York dated 1944 and a First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in a sort of beige oatmeal cloth with maroon decorations on the cover and titles on the spine; it is protected by a printed paper dust jacket. The book is very well illustrated and opens with a section of gravure illustrations inserted between pages 2 and 3. There are also 40 drawings throughout the text and a series of maps. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows a good deal of light edge wear small tears and chips but is still largely whole and doing its job. The hard covers are clean and unbumped but with some minor darkening along the top edge and the spine. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound.
