Contemporary quarter brown-morocco over marbled boards, raised bands, gilt ruling & lettering on spine (wear, rubbing, edgewear, some scuffing, occasional foxing), still VG- copy, w/ former ownership markings of the noted illustrator Henri Stein (1843-1919), whose illustrations graced the El Mosquito, a "satirical-burlesque with caricatures" newspaper appearing weekly from 1863 to 1893. Revised & expanded edition of this uncommon Roret Manual on colour theory, and providing instructions on use of colour for illuminations, retouching engravings, lithographs, natural history plates, maps, oriental plates, and topographical plans. The authors have specified as well the proper tools, colours, the quality of colours, and even how to mix them.
