In den WarenkorbNA. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. N.d., circa 1690. 39 by 24.5 cm, visible. With frame, 43 by 28 cm. Unquestionably scarce broadside. There is only a single listing of "Horology and Dyalling" on OCLC First Search, held by the Adler Planetarium, and according to this listing, it is several pages in a book with illustrations,… the dimensions of which are consistent with this broadside. Whether this broadside appeared in that publication or was published separately we can not say but regardless has little bearing on the question of scarcity. In the upper right, in a decorative cursive, is written, "To the Worshipfull Thomas Stringer of Ivy Church near Salisbury Wiltshire Esq. (?). This plate is humbly dedicated by Ric. Blome." This statement suggests to us that it was issued separately, but certainly such a statement isn't dispositive. Richard Blome (1635-1705) was known as a publisher, engraver and cartographer. We credit him as the author and/or artist, but that work might well have been done by someone else. We do assume Blome was the publisher, but again, there is no clear-cut evidence of that. The plate is in the style of other broadsides or plates created under the auspices of Blome, such as a plate entitled "Geography", from his work, "The Gentleman's Recreation", co-authored with Nicholas Cox, published in 1686.

In den WarenkorbBlome's edition of Hollar's London Engraved map. Richard Blome was an English engraver, cartographer and printer who successfully published and sold a large number of maps, none of which were original. In fact, he was even accused of plagiarism, since he often failed to credit the original sources. Despite being embroiled in sev…eral conflicts that led one critic to remark that "Mr. Blome hath got nothing but scandal and evil will by his bad accompts and great mistakes", Blome won the favour of Charles II. The newly-restored king granted the publisher a royal privilege and recommended his work to friends and officials alike. As a result, Blome's maps, books, prints and playing cards enjoyed wide circulation throughout England and Europe. In 1673, he published his 'Britannia', in which there was an aerial view of London originally made by Wenceslaus Hollar in 1667, but reengraved with a new dedication to Sir Robert Vyner, whose coat of arms is depicted at the bottom, and a border consisting of the arms of the 12 Great City Livery companies in the side margins. Extending the short distance from Westminster in the west to Stepney in the east, the aerial view depicts the city's streets, buildings and notable sites in detail, with a 45-point numerical key and a 24-point alphabetical key identifying important features.
