"In the five stories in MAN AND BEAST, Miss Bottome made fresh use of her knowledge of psychology. The suspense of each story is supplied 'by crisis or tragedy in the relationships between man and animal.' Edmund Fuller called them 'psychological tales equally penetrating with both the human and animal characters.'" - Kunitz and Haycraft, Twentieth Century Authors, First Supplement, p. 103. At least one of the stories here ("Henry") is supernatural. NCBEL IV 533. A nearly fine copy in good dust jacket with chipping at edges and dust soiling to rear panel. (#118390).
