Contains a suite of twenty-five soft ground etchings by Jack Levine inspires by the Bertolt Brecht and G. W. Pabst "Dreigroschen Film" of 1930. One of 100 portfolios, each hand-numbered and signed by the artist on each etching. Etchings, which measure approx. 18 x14" wide are all in fine condition. The thick outer clamshell box is a bit scuffed and worn. BFK Rives paper.

With annotations in German in manuscript pencil identifying Lenya and photographer Tobin Warner on the verso, along with an annotation noting the photograph as property of "Close Up" magazine. Based on the 1928 stage play "Die Dreigroschenoper" by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill. A biting, socialist "play with music," based on Elisabeth Hauptmann's translation of John Gay's eighteenth-century ballad opera "The Beggar's Opera," and on four ballads by François Villon. Lenya would go on to receive a Tony Award for her performance in Marc Blitzstein's English version of the play in 1956. 9.25 x 12 inches. Very Good plus, faintly age toned, with light creasing on the top right corner.
