As far as possible the books have been alphabetically arranged according to authors, cross-references being given from pseudonyms to the author s nameThe Philology section includes, besides dictionaries and works relating to languages, books on other subjects written in dialect. Among these are examples of various groups of languages : Romance, Scandinavian, Teutonic, Celtic, Slavonic, Ugrian, Semitic, etc.; besides Indian, Chinese, African, Australian and Polynesian. The larger number of these works are in European dialects, but the lesser known and consequently rarer examples from Africa and the East are also represented.The Proverb section comprises Servian, Finnish, Hungarian, Gipsy, Turkish, Maltese, Persian, Hindustani, Tamil, Chinese, Egyptian, Yoruba (including the Ewe), and Maori proverbs and sayings, in addition to the more popular collections. As many of the works on proverbs contain emblems, maxims or apophthegms, and epitaphs, all works on these subjects are included in the Proverb section. Some works wholly relating to proverbs, but in dialect, will be found in the Proverb section, cross-references being given at the end of Philology.
