When Mays announced he was retiring and selling the forge, both men learned they were going to lose their jobs. Marsh, an employee for 37 years, was particularly upset. While out on an errand Mays went to a pub. He returned to work drunk and got into an argument with Bidwell. Enraged, he beat him to death with a heavy iron bar. A servant saw the attack and notified Mays. When he entered the forge, Marsh killed him with the same bar. First line of the verses: "The bell has ceased tolling, Henry March is now dead. His body's now lying in its cold, narrow bed." This is a rare item. OCLC locates 1 copy (Washington State University). No copies listed on Library Hub.
