The first seven series of this distinguished French journal (which is the oldest surviving publication of its kind), offering a fascinating window into French bookselling and book-collecting in the 1830s and 1840s. . The Bulletin du Bibliophile was founded in 1834 by the bookseller Jacques-Joseph Techener and the writer Charles Nodier. Among the distinguished contributors to the first volume were Jacques-Charles Brunet, Georges Duplessis, Jean-Michel Constant Leber and Gabriel Peignot. Each issue includes a listing of works offered for sale by Techener and one or more articles of interest to book collectors, correspondence, etc. From the prospectus "Les ouvrages nouveaux, en toutes langues, qui auront rapport à l'art de l'imprimerie, à la reliure et à la décoration des livres, aux procédés à employer pour les conserver et les restaurer-, à la calligraphie , à la diplomatique, à la haute grammaire et à la philologie, seront en particulier exactement analysés, ou même traduits par extraits , avec des développemens proportionnés à leur importance."
