An example of systems engineering at work is the control of the timing of thousands of city traffic lights to maximize traffic flow. Les espèces du genre Pachybrachis se caractérisent par une très grande variabilité intraspécifique des taches jaunes ou noires, y compris au sein d'une même population. Cette variabilité impose l'examen systématique des genitalia mâles et femelles. Si l'étude des génitalia mâles a fait l'objet de plusieurs travaux notamment ceux de Burlini et Warchalowski, la détermination des femelles isolées était pratiquement impossible.
