Er war ein bedeutender französischer Beamter, Präfekt und Minister für öffentliche Arbeiten unter Karl X. Zudem war er freies assoziiertes Mitglied der Académie nationale de médecine (ab 1823), was seine medizinische Expertise und d…ie Autorschaft dieses ärztlichen Attests erklärt. Er schreibt an Laure Junot, Herzogin von Abrantès (1784-1838). Sie war eine berühmte französische Schriftstellerin und Witwe des Generals Jean-Andoche Junot. Zum Zeitpunkt des Attests (1837) befand sie sich in ihren letzten Lebensjahren, die von Krankheit und finanzieller Not geprägt waren. Je soussigné Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, médecin de l'hôpital Saint-Antoine et de l'hospice des Orphelins, certifie que Madame la Duchesse d'Abrantès est affectée d'une névralgie faciale très douloureuse qui l'oblige de garder son lit et qu'elle ne pouvait sans danger de voir augmenter ses souffrances, s'exposer à sortir. En foi de quoi j'ai délivré le présent certificat pour servir et valoir ce que de raison. Paris ce 7 Septembre 1837 / Capelle m.d. Die bescheinigte "Névralgie faciale" (Trigeminusneuralgie) ist für extrem starke, blitzartige Schmerzattacken im Gesicht bekannt. Im 19. Jahrhundert galt strikte Bettruhe und die Vermeidung von Außenreizen (Kälte, Wind) als Standardtherapie. Das Hôpital Saint-Antoine und das Hospice des Orphelins waren zentrale medizinische Einrichtungen in Paris. Capelle war dort als leitender Arzt tätig. Das Attest wurde nur neun Monate vor dem Tod der Herzogin von Abrantès (Juni 1838) ausgestellt, es zeigt die Tragik ihrer letzten Monate. Sie versuchte in dieser Zeit durch das Schreiben ihrer Memoiren ihre Schulden zu begleichen.
