Chambers became an ordained minister in 1892. While still a student in college he took charge of a small chapel at E. Stroudsburgh, Pennsylvania and created a congregation before he even graduated. After three years, he had built a $10,000 church and had a large congregation. He became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Merchantville, New Jersey in 1902.
