Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a historical account of the French colony of Saint-Domingue, now known as Haiti, one of the most prosperous European colonies of the 18th century that was destroyed by a slave revolt in 1791. The author, a colonist and slave owner who escaped the revolt, provides a detailed examination of the causes of the uprising, including the inhumane living conditions of enslaved Africans, the tensions between white planters and free people of color, and the impact of the French Revolution on the colony. The book also offers insights into the economic and social dynamics of Saint-Domingue, highlighting the intricate relationships between the different groups that inhabited the island. Archival materials like court documents, personal letters, and official reports from the French colonial administration have been consulted thoroughly to present a well-researched account. This book is a valuable resource for understanding the complexities of colonialism, slavery, and revolution in the Caribbean. It sheds light on the factors that contributed to the downfall of Saint-Domingue, offering lessons for contemporary struggles against oppression and injustice. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
