Zustand: Very Good. Hardback. Single volume of 8 comedy plays collected from spearate volumes of The British Theatre. Bound together, each with frontis, in contemporary half-leather over marbled boards, rubbed and chipped but sound, a few pages slightly marked, otherwise very good.

Soft cover. Zustand: Good. Softcover early 18th c./ late Restoration play begun by actor/manager Cibber, reworked by Vanbrugh (architect of Blenheim Palace) into his second and most successful play. Here is a 24mo copy from 1823 with notes, frp illustration and one for the stage and positions of the actors for this period, some lines inked out and very fine ink comments in margins of 19thc performance give this a decidedly mid 19th c flavor. The premise of the plot, that a wife trapped in an abusive marriage with a brutish husband might consider either leaving it or taking a lover, outraged some sections of society but has a very contemporary appeal today. Good only as strings loosening, some chipping, 82pps, ancient protective wrap provided. Rare.

Full Leather. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. Five "Comedies" published in London between 1776 and 1777. Full polished calf with red leather spine label. Spine is a little faded and chipped on ends. Appears to be lacking a second spine label. Some moisture tide marks in contents and scattered mostly light foxing. Other general light wear, though overall a solid and fairly clean copy.

A completion and adaptation by Colley Cibber of Vanbrugh's unfinished comedy A journey to London.
