That atlas was The Times Atlas, a new edition of the Cassell Universal Atlas itself an English edition of Andree's, Allgemeiner Handatlas, first published in German in 1880 by Verlag von Velhagen & Klasing of Bielefeld and Leipzig. The Atlas contained 118 pages of maps, which half referred to Europe. To replace that title, The Times Survey Atlas was commissioned from John Bartholomew & Son, the renowned Edinburgh cartographers.
