Includes one folding map and numerous illustrations and photographs throughout. NOTABLE PROVENANCE: Bears the stamp of the Cercle Polyglotte, Hôtel Ravenstein, Bruxelles — one of Brussels' most distinguished intellectual clubs of the Belle Époque period. Binding: contemporary half leather (green), marbled boards, gilt title on spine. Age-appropriate wear consistent with 128 years of age. Interior generally clean. An important primary document of Belgian colonial history and of the 1897 Brussels World Fair. Increasingly sought after by historians of colonialism, African studies, and Art Nouveau (the exhibition decoration was by Henry van de Velde — his first official commission).
