XX (From the dust jacket flaps) "From its early days New Zealand's history has been filled with drama and excitement. The rumbustious whalers and sealers, the bloody Maori Wars, the sudden wealth and vigour of the gold-rush days, the pastoralists with their sheep stations, and the innovative social reforms which occurred at the turn of the [20th] century have all made New Zealand what it is today. However, as well as having a dramatic past, New Zealand possesses a stunningly beautiful and varied landscape. In PRESENTING NEW ZEALAND, eight different photographers, whose work has rarely been seen before, present a refreshing new look at the uniquely beautiful face of New Zealand. From the golden autumn colours of Otago to the icy peaks of the Southern Alps; the holiday haunts of the Bay of Islands to the wild and rugged West Coast; the thermal wonders of Rotorua to the isolated grandeur of Fiordland; and for hundreds of places in between, New Zealand, as it is, can be seen. As well as the spectacular colour sections the book contains a history of New Zealand from the days when the Maoris roamed undisturbed. It also includes profiles of some of the outstanding men, good and bad, who left their mark on New Zealand in the early days of settlement. Historical engravings from the relevant periods add interest to the book. A section on places of interest unites history, landscape and modern development and gives today's traveler a concise guide to exploring and enjoying our beautiful country. Dalys Conlon, the author of the text, is a proven journalist and writer with one previous book to her credit. Her love for New Zealand enables her to write of her country with insight and understanding. This book is the result of the work of a number of people, and as such, none can be singled out for particular distinction. Dawn Kendall and Russell Waite of Lyric Studios are well-known Auckland photographers and the authors of the successful This Is New Zealand. Dr Harold Collinson's lifetime love of the New Zealand countryside and his enthusiasm for photography combine to produce a rich and interesting collection of photographs. Ruud Kleinpaste's specialty is nature photography, and he has made several trips throughout New Zealand. Steven McIvor, Doug Newman and Sue Robinson have all made several trips around New Zealand and have captured its beautiful scenery on film.".…
