Erstausgabe
First edition. First edition. Facsimile frontispiece. 344pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Dallas was a miscellaneous writer of modest talent who became friendly with Byron partly on the strength of his sister's marriage to Byron's uncle, George Anson Byron. Byron gave Dallas some letters he had written to his mother during his eastern travels, and upon Byron's death, Dallas proposed to edit and publish them under the above title. Byron's executors, Hobhouse and Hanson, obtained an injunction against publication and Dallas died shortly thereafter. The book, edited by his son, was published almost immediately, and contains an account of the dispute over the publication of the Byron letters. 19th-century half calf and marbled boards, upper cover detached, lower joint split; interior very good Facsimile frontispiece. 344pp. 1 vols. 8vo.
